My workshop – rich in tradition – specialises in repairing clocks, grandfather clocks, pendulum clocks and pocket watches. It was founded in 1955 by the renowned Basel watchmaker Hermann Schudel before I took it over in 1998. The aim of a repair is to maintain the functionality of an object without detracting from its historical significance. Depending on the condition, individual parts may need to be replaced or rebuilt. Original parts are always returned to the owner of the clock.

Depending on the condition of the object, it may make sense to decommission a clock. Corrosion, serious wear or complicated maintenance are all reasons that may preclude continued operation.

WHAT Does THE RESTORATION OF HISTORICAL TIMEPIECES Entail?

The restoration of historical timepieces is a comprehensive process that includes the careful examination of all components. The clocks are repaired and, if necessary, replaced to maintain their original functionality and safety.

This includes the restoration of defective mechanisms, the reproduction of missing parts and the inspection of the timepiece. The aim is to preserve the functionality of the object while maintaining its historical integrity.
